人類最初の衣

企画展示室のガラスケースには、服飾史を代表する衣装を纏ったマネキンが、年代順に並んでいる。そのガラスケースの端、一番古い時代の場所に、私の作品が忍び込んでいる。タイトルは“人類最初の衣”。股間を一枚の“イチジクの葉”で覆っただけのものである。人類の祖アダムとイブが、禁断の果実を食した途端、羞恥心に苛まれ、思わずイチジクの葉で股間を隠したというアレである。古来、西洋の芸術家たちは、その“原罪”の場面を絵画や彫刻で表現してきた。しかし、何故か手で押さえているわけでもないのに、見事に葉っぱが股間を覆っている。物理的にはあり得ない。米原万里氏は、著書「パンツの面目ふんどしの沽券」の中で、その不思議に言及し、多くの聖書の訳書によると、葉っぱの表記は複数形で、それを縫い合わせた腰巻的なものを想像させる、としている。反物理的である一枚葉パンツを表現してきた芸術家が間違いなのだ。けれども、私はその先輩芸術家たちと同様に間違えようと思う。たった一枚だからこそ、「美」というものを獲得できるような気がするからである。

The first clothes in the history of the human race

In the main glass case of the museum, there are outfitting mannequins representing fashion history in chronological order.
I sneaked my work into the edge of the line, the place of the oldest times.
Like 'Adam and Eve', 2 mannequines cover thier sexual organs with one leaf like great master artists having expressed.
Also in front of 2 mannequines, the digital slide view shows 44 images from 16 works of 'leaf covering' sculptures and paintings by the great master artists - Albrecht Durer, Lucas Cranach the Elder, Raffaello Santi,Auguste Rodin and so on.
